Dr. D. W. Livingstone is professor emeritus in the Department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). He was born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1943. He holds an Honours B.A. in sociology from the University of British Columbia and a doctorate in social relations from Johns Hopkins University. He is Canada Research Chair in Lifelong Learning and Work. He was formerly head of the Centre for the Study of Education and Work at OISE/UT and director of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-funded research network on The Research Network on the Changing Nature of Work and Lifelong Learning (WALL, www.wallnetwork.ca). He also served from 1977 to 2009 as principal investigator of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto biennial Survey of Educational Issues (www.oise.utoronto.ca/OISE-Survey).
